On top of Asnebumskit
Dec. 2nd, 2010 09:33 amThis morning I find myself at the very first FM transmitter site in New England, on Asnebumskit Hill in Paxton, MA, waiting for the phone company (or someone like them). I brought my laptop along so I could do my November invoices, which I had planned to do at home. My other project for today is building a Rivendell machine to run one of the NH stations while I'm installing its new automation system on Tuesday. That, alas, will have to wait until I get home.
The tower here was built by Major Armstrong for a long defunct low-band FM station (and is currently used by my client and two other FM's. The oldest currently operating FM in Massachusetts, Clear Channel's WSRS ("Worcester's Stereo Radio Station") is about half a mile down the road at a different site.
I just got a call from my colleague who says the telco people have a trouble ticket to answer before they get up here. It may be a while.
FM reception here is fantastic.
