There once was a train called the Potatoland Special. No, it didn't go to Idaho; it ran from Bangor, Maine, to a little town called Van Buren, way up north on the border with New Brunswick.
And it had through sleeping car service from Boston, via a car switched to and from a Maine Central Boston - Bangor train.
These days it's hard to imagine sleeping car service from Boston anywhere north, let alone to a little town of 2,000 mostly French-speakers in the middle of nowhere.
I wonder if those tracks are still there. The train hasn't run since 1960.
