Ospreys are bad luck

necturusThe operations manager and I spent all day Friday trying to aim a satellite dish on Block Island at AMC-8. There was an osprey on the tower and another one on a nearby telephone pole, and they kept cursing us throughout the day; we seem to have been intruding on their territory. Just to emphasize the point, we found a half-eaten dead fish at the base of the tower.
We never found the satellite. There was no signal coming from where it should have been in the sky. Maybe the ospreys ate it, or else the low noise block down-converter is bad.
The weather was gorgeous, though, and there were lots of egrets hanging out in the marsh.
