"The Pope, he leads a jolly life"

There is an old student song my father used to sing called "The Pope"; it starts out:

"The Pope, he leads a jolly life (jolly life);
He's free from every care and strife (care and strife);
He drinks the best of Rhenish wi-i-ine;
I would the Pope's gay life were mine."

I just discovered that it is actually a translaton of an eighteenth century German song by one Christian Ludwig Noack, "Papst und Sultan".

Cool, huh?
