As more operators are wondering about the future of AM and potential technological challenges, Limbaugh believes the answer lies in content. 'People go to AM because there’s something on it that people want to listen to, pure and simple, that’s why it’s relevant.'"
Even a broken clock is right twice a day. And in this case, he's got it spot on. Radio is show business, and the technology doesn't matter as much as the content. Serve up something creative, entertaining, informative, and unique, and people will listen. On the other hand, turn your station over to a satellite 24/7, as Entercom did with 50,000-watt WEEI 850 AM in Boston, and watch what was once the number one station in Boston sink to an execrable 0.7 share. I know a bunch of college kids that could get better ratings than that.
