My brother and I made an attempt to fix my father's clothes dryer, but failed, lacking a usable replacement for a broken belt.

Then, as the turkey was cooking, the heating element in the bottom of the oven exploded spectacularly, spewing forth sparks like something on the bridge of the Enterprise during a Klingon disruptor attack. We managed to finish cooking the turkey with the element in the top, usually used for broiling, and bake some bread, but the bread is a bit disappointing, albeit edible. The turkey, however, was delicious.

Grocery stores here are open on Thanksgiving, so I was able to track down some critical bread ingredients, such as yeast. I also chose to use brown sugar instead of the honey on hand, which is one great big solid block; that might account for some of my disappointment with the flavor of the bread.

Tomorrow we will venture into the Black Friday maelstrom in search of belt and element.

I've only had one call so far from a radio station. This is a good thing.
