Digital archaeology
Sep. 29th, 2010 11:38 pmLast night one of my clients asked me to help them resurrect an old DOS-based database they had discarded three years ago. I couldn't remember which machine it used to be in, so I put a SCSI card in a computer I had been working on and started on a pile of long disused hard drives. I found an ancient back up of the data files but no software; it's probably on an old Scott Studios DOS box in the attic, which I'll have to search on Monday.
I did, however, find the entire music library of a former employer's now defunct Cape Cod classic rock station on one of the old hard drives. Oh, does that bring back memories. If my client ever wants to do classic rock, he's got all the music he'll need.
This has been a less than stellar week for me; every day so far I've managed to make at least one seriously embarrassing mistake.
