I'm setting up a new digital studio system for WHRB. The Rivendell system was created by the right-wing Chistian broadcasting company Salem Communications and made freely available as open source; I've installed it for my World Classical Network client at several stations, and it's been running pretty well for three years, so it was the logical choice. Here is a screenshot of the system under test in automatic mode, counting down to the end of "I Hear a Voice" by the Kuumba Singers. In this screenshot, the song has finished and the next song, "You Are So Beautiful" by Nicole LePera, has started.

The beauty of Rivendell is that it lets you rip new songs into the system from CD while the system is playing on the air. Most rival systems can't do that; you have to have a second machine running to do ripping/production work while the first one plays.

Hats off to Fred Gleason, Rivendell's creator. Rivendell rocks.
