In the spring of 1979, as I prepared to graduate from college, I applied for a job at the NSA. I went to Fort Meade, Maryland, where they were headquartered, for an interview. Then I heard nothing from them for about a year, by which time my career aspirations had taken a different direction. They asked me back for a second interview, but I told them I was no longer interested.

In restrospect, I would have been miserable there, and would never have been allowed to talk about it. Little did I imagine in 1979 that Ronald Reagan would become President in a year and a half, and nothing in America would ever be the same again.

Incidentally, I no longer support President Obama. The NSA snooping was the last straw. Edward Snowden deserves a medal, and so does Bradley Manning. This government is profoundly corrupt and utterly dysfunctional; it is time for a constitutional convention and a fresh start.
